After a great deal of hard work and fundraising the South Auckland Charitable Trust was formed in 1982. Over the years the services provided have expanded to meet the changing needs of the community. It is now very much an integral part of the health services provided in South Auckland providing palliative care and support to the people of Manukau, Otahuhu and Papakura.
Hospice South Auckland is governed by eight trustees on the Hospice South Auckland Charitable Trust. The Hospice Team encompasses a chief executive officer, an extensive clinical team including doctors, nurses, counselors and social workers and support and management staff. Hospice relies hugely on the work of its volunteers and the ongoing support of the community.
Hospice South Auckland cares for people who live in the Counties Manukau District Health Board area regardless of gender, ethnicity, age, spiritual beliefs and customs. This area of Auckland is rich with many different cultures including Pacific Island, Indian, Asian, Maori, European people.
Hospice South Auckland has a team of palliative care specialists to assist and support with the medical, emotional, psychological and spiritual needs of the patient and their family, caring for the whole person.

Hospices in New Zealand are funded 60 percent through Government contacts with the local district health boards, the remainder of the funding is raised with the support of the local community. For Hospice South Auckland this is approximately $2.6 million
